”thought-conception  and  discursive  thinking”,  (or  ”applied  and  sustained  thought”)  are  verbal  functions  (vaci^-sankha^ra:  s.  sankha^ra)  of  the  mind,  the  so-called  ”inner  speech  (”parole  interieure”).  They  are  constituents  of  the  1st  absorption  (s.  jha^na),  but  absent  in  the  higher  absorptions.
(1)  "Thought-conception  (vitakka)  is  the  laying  hold  of  a  thought,  giving  it  attention.  Its  characteristic  consists  in  fixing  the  consciousness  to  the  object.
(2)  "Discursive  thinking  (vica^ra)  is  the  roaming  about  and  moving  to  and  fro  of  the  mind....  It  manifests  itself  as  continued  activity  of  mind"  (Vis.M.  IV).
(1)  is  compared  with  the  striking  against  a  bell,  (2)  with  its  resounding;  (1)  with  the  seizing  of  a  pot,  (2)  with  wiping  it.  (Cf.  Vis  .  IV.).

中國百科全書 【611】百論(Sata-sastra)

  Bailun

  佛教論書。上下兩卷。古印度提婆著,世親釋。本論曾有兩次翻譯。第一次在後秦弘始四年(402),鸠摩羅什譯,僧睿作序。由于其時鸠摩羅什初至,方言未娴,故文義欠正。弘始六年,鸠摩羅什重譯,僧肇作序。爲今之流通本。僧肇《百論序》說:“《百論》者,蓋是通聖心之津塗,開真谛之要論也。……于是外道紛然,異端競起,邪辯逼真,殆亂正道。乃仰慨聖教之陵遲,俯悼群迷之縱惑,將遠拯覺淪,故作斯論。”論以梵本有百偈得名(句子不論長短,滿叁十二字即爲一偈,又稱“通偈”)。“論凡二十品,品各五偈,後十品,其人(指羅什——引者注)以爲無益此土,故阙而不傳。”由于世親注釋有多有少,譯時又有取舍,所以今本字數無定。

  《百論》的主題是破斥古代印度佛教以外的其他哲學流派,其方式是“唯破不立”,設一個論題,加以批駁;再設一個論題,再批駁。通過“外曰”(代表外論異說)和“內曰”(代表提婆的觀點)對論辯難,鋪成一品。譯本中注有“修妬路”(即契經)的段落是提婆的原文,此外是世親的解釋。修妬  路語句簡約,其含義多藉世親的訓釋而顯明。主要有舍罪福品、破神品、破一品、破異品、破情品、破塵品、破因中有果品、破因中無果品、破常品、破空品等。

  《百論》在印度佛教的發展過程中曾起過重要作用。它廣破異家學說,維護了佛教的地位。據吉藏《百論疏序》所言,當時在印度爲之作注、闡發義理的有十余家,其中最重要的是兩家:波數和世親。漢譯本問世後,曆代流傳,又成爲重要的佛教論本。叁論學者尊奉此論,不僅吸取論中破有破無,主“畢竟空”的思想,而且廣泛運用其中推理論證的邏輯方法,批駁當時的成實師、地論師、攝論師等。提婆“唯破不立”的思想原則,也影響到禅宗。禅僧主張隨機施化,無所執著(包括法語心要),就有提婆思想的意味。有關漢譯本《百論》的注疏,有吉藏《百論疏》3卷,道憑《百論疏》2卷,元康《百論疏》3卷,荊南(不詳姓氏)《百論疏略記》2卷。據義天《新編諸宗教藏總錄》卷叁所載,又有亡名所作《百論義疏》2卷,《百論私記》2卷。此中以吉藏《百論疏》3卷爲最重要。(陳士強)

  Dazangjing

  佛教典籍的叢書。又名一切經、契經、藏經或叁藏。內容包括經(釋迦牟尼在世時的說教以及後來增入的少數佛教徒——阿羅漢或菩薩的說教在內)、律(釋迦牟尼爲信徒製定必須遵守的儀軌規則)、論(關于佛教教理的闡述或解釋)。大藏經的編纂,始于釋迦牟尼涅槃不久,弟子們爲保存他的說教,統一信徒的見解和認識,通過會議方式的結集,形成一致公認的經、律、論內容。其後又增加了有關經、律、論的注釋和疏解等“藏外典籍”,成爲卷帙浩繁的四大部類。原始佛教分裂以後,各大派別大多按照自己的觀點編有本派的藏經,但只有上座部的叁藏比較完整地保存下來,其他部派的典籍除了在漢文譯本中保存一部分外,基本上都已散佚。早期的梵文經典只剩下少數零散貝葉本或紙寫本至今尚存,全部叁藏已難窺全貌。現存的大藏經,按文字的不同可分爲漢文、藏文、蒙文、滿文、西廈文、日文和巴利語系等七個系統。此外還有過契丹文大藏經的刻造,但尚未發現傳世的刻本。

  漢文大藏經爲大小乘佛教典籍兼收的叢書。佛教傳入中國內地以後的千余年間,僅經錄即近50種之多,流傳至今尚有20余種,收錄的經籍數量不等。各個時代編纂的大藏經,形式和內容互有不同。除房山石經外,宋代以前的基本上都是卷軸裝幀的書寫本。北宋開寶(968~975)年間,第一部木版雕印的大藏經問世後,曆元、明、清至民國,共出版過木刻和排印本大藏經20種(一說21種)。佛教由中國東傳至朝鮮和日本後,高麗和日本王朝均依漢文大藏經進行抄寫刻印或排印。《開寶藏》首刻本于宋雍熙元年(984)傳入日本,端拱(988~989)年間傳到高麗。乾興元年(1022)和元豐六年(1083)又分別將天禧修訂本和熙甯修訂本傳到契丹和高麗。遼清甯九年(1063),契丹還把新刻就的《契丹藏》印本送給高麗。6世紀中葉,部分漢譯佛典通過朝鮮南部的百濟國流傳到日本。7世紀初,佛教在日本有了很大的發展,各種漢譯佛經的寫本和曆代官私刻本的各版大藏經大量傳入日本各大寺院。自13世紀末葉迄20世紀20年代的700多年間,日本佛教界曾依據漢文本的各版大藏經,編纂、雕造、複刻或排印過《弘安藏》、《天海藏》、《黃檗藏》、《弘教藏》、《卐正藏經》、《卐續藏經》和《大正新修大藏經》等7種版本的漢文大藏經。20世紀初,日本佛學界還將小乘上座部叁藏譯爲日文本的《南傳大藏經》65卷,並編輯出版《國譯大藏經》、《國譯一切經》和《日本大藏經》,這叁種藏經的內容除中國著述外,還收錄了大量的日本章疏及雜著等。

  藏文大藏經在9世紀初葉已譯出700余部,其中一部分自漢譯本轉譯。後弘期補譯的經籍,以論典和無上瑜伽的經論爲多。全藏分甘珠爾、丹珠爾和松繃叁大類;甘珠爾收律、經和密咒,丹珠爾收贊頌、經釋和咒釋,松繃則收藏、蒙佛教徒的有關著述。自元皇慶二年(1313)至民國二十二年(1933),各地共刻造過11種不同版本的藏文大藏經。此外還有刻于不丹的普拉卡本和今蒙古人民共和國烏蘭巴托的庫倫本兩種。

  蒙文大藏經先後有四次譯刻,最早是元大德(1297~1307)年間在薩迦派喇嘛法光的主持下,由西藏、蒙古、回鹘和漢族僧衆將藏文大藏經譯爲蒙文,在西藏地區雕造刷印;明萬曆(1573~1620)年間曾補譯過部分典籍增入刊行;崇祯(1628~1644)初年對舊本進行過校刊。清康熙二十二年(1683)由和碩裕親王福全領銜監修重刻甘珠爾竣工;乾隆六年到十四年(1741~1749)校譯重刻了丹珠爾,方始完備。

  滿文大藏經于清乾隆叁十八年(1773)根據漢文大藏經編次和內容翻譯。乾隆五十五年編譯刻完,計108函,只收入般若、寶積、大集、華嚴、涅槃諸部和其他大、小乘單譯經及密秘部經咒等共699種。

  西夏文大藏經始由漢文大藏經譯出。宋景祐元年(1034),《開寶藏》傳到西夏(可能是《開寶藏》的天禧修訂本),西夏的開國君主趙元昊于興慶府建造高臺寺加以收藏,並召集回鹘僧人譯爲新創造的西夏文。先後曆時53年譯畢,共362帙,812部,3579卷。元世祖至元七年(1270)由化身一行國師主持重行校勘並翻譯未譯的經籍,印製叁藏新經。至元叁十年,世祖敕令主僧事的西壁土情轉知沙門慧中等20余人負責將西夏文舊經本送杭州刻印,到大德六年(1302)竣工,前後共刷印了140余藏,但大多毀損無存,現各地發現的經論殘卷僅數十種。

  巴利語系大藏經爲南傳佛教上座部奉行的叁藏典籍。流傳于斯裏蘭卡、緬甸、泰國、柬埔寨、老撾和中國雲南省傣族地區,是用各種不同文字字母音譯的巴利語佛典。除僧伽羅文、緬甸文、泰文、高棉文和老撾文外,傣文有4種不同的方言文字譯本,近代還僧加了天城體梵文本、拉丁字母本和日文譯本等3種版本。(童玮)
