  Zhongguo  Fojiao  yinyue

  中國佛教寺院和信衆在舉行宗教儀式時所用的音樂。佛教認爲,音樂有“供養”、“頌佛”作用。《法華經·方便品》雲:“歌呗頌佛德,乃至一音,皆已成佛道。”

  形式  有聲樂和器樂等多種。聲樂主要有:1、獨唱,由維那擔任;2、領唱和齊唱結合,即由維那唱上句,僧衆唱下句:3、齊唱;4、輪唱。

  聲樂曲調的格式主要有四種,即贊、偈、咒、白。贊,用于頌佛之功德,如叁寶贊、得贊等,其詞多爲長短句式的詩。偈,用于頌揚佛教教義,如淨叁業偈、沐浴偈等,其詞有四、五、六、七和九言的句式,在曲調上除了用上下對句外,一般常以四句爲一樂段。咒,是密語或真言,如灑淨真言等,其詞的格式變化甚多,曲調比較活潑。白,除直白外,其他如梵白、書聲白、書梵白、道腔白等都帶有音樂旋律,與散板吟唱十分相似。

  器樂訂演奏曲牌。各地各派寺院用的曲牌不盡相同,如江蘇地區用十番鼓,山西五臺山用八大套,北京有智化寺的京音樂等。

  佛教常見的主要儀式有朝課、晚課、佛誕祝儀、忏儀、放焰口及水陸法會(水陸道場)、戒壇儀式等等。其中禅門日育是比丘每日在寺院中早晚必做的功課,音樂並不複雜,而且各地較爲一致。放焰口和水陸法會規模較大,費時較長,有的還有情節內容,其音樂和舞蹈、誦白的結合安排都有一定的水平。音樂旋律有的莊重,有的活潑,有的淒厲,有的熱情,隨儀式發展而變化。如放焰口,據傳有九板十叁腔,不同的唱腔旋律有幾十種,因此,放焰口的音樂結構實際上相當于一出音樂清唱劇。水陸法會的規模更大,主要盛行于江浙一帶和臺灣等地。  

  演奏使用的樂器,自明代起,在早晚課誦、祝聖等宗教儀式中,著名寺院都較統一,即只用經書中稱之爲法器的打擊樂器,如磬、引磬、木魚、铛、铪、鍾、鼓等。在其他佛事儀式中,特別是民間應赴的佛事儀式,各地應用樂器不全相同,各有地方特色。除打擊樂器之外,吹管樂器有管子、笛、笙、唢呐、昭君等。也有采用絲弦樂器的。

  源流  佛教音樂源于印度。公元前後,天竺的佛教音樂甚盛。後隨佛教傳入中國內地。當時稱爲梵呗。慧皎的《高僧傳》雲:“天竺方俗,凡歌詠法言,皆稱爲呗。至于此土,詠經則稱爲轉讀,歌贊則號爲梵呗。”義爭的《南海寄歸內法傳》雲:“初出家者……即須先教頌斯二贊,無問大乘、小乘,鹹同遵此。”自佛教開始傳入至叁國時,來自印度、西域的佛教音樂。其主要代表人物是:竺示蘭、迦時摩騰、支婁迦谶、支謙、康僧會、帛屍梨蜜多羅、有“胡呗叁契”和“高聲梵呗”;支昙  有“六言梵呗”;鸠摩羅什作十首偈頌,贈沙門法和。《隋書·音樂志》載:呂光等滅龜茲,因得龜茲樂“于阗佛曲”。贊甯《高僧傳·讀誦篇》雲:“北則竺蘭,始直聲而宣剖;南惟僧會,揚曲韻以諷通”,慧皎《高僧傳》卷十叁雲:鸠摩羅什“傳聲則叁千有余,在契則四十有二”,把竺法蘭、康僧會、鸠摩羅什等奉爲梵呗傳入中國的鼻祖。

  發展  印度佛教音樂在漢地流傳中,因漢、梵語音不同,曲調難以通用和接受,“梵音重複,漢語單奇;若用梵音以詠漢語,則聲繁而偈迫;若用漢曲以詠梵文,則韻短而辭長,則韻短而辭長,是故金言有譯,梵響無授”。爲了便于弘揚佛法,爲廣大信徒所接受,音樂遂“改梵爲秦”,用中國的音調來配唱漢譯經文。相傳最早改梵爲秦的是叁國魏曹植。《法苑珠林》言其遊魚山時,聞空中梵天之響而“製轉贊七聲,升降曲折之響,世之諷誦,鹹憲章焉”。魏晉間的佛教出現了與印度佛教音樂相異的形式,由中國人創製的佛教音樂,可視爲中國佛教音樂的萌芽。

  南北朝時,隨著佛教的傳播,民間吟唱贊偈甚爲流行。佛教中湧現了一些有民族文化和藝術修養的僧人,在慧皎的《高僧傳》和道宣的《續高僧傳》等書中,記載了南北朝至唐初的許多擅長佛教音樂的高僧,如道照、慧琚、昙宗、道慧、智周、慧明、法稱、真觀等。據傳,他們皆“尤善唱導,出語成章”,“聲韻錘鈴”,“唱說之功,獨步當世”;其見聞者,莫不驚異。梁武帝箫衍積極倡導師佛教音樂,《隋書·音樂志》雲:帝既笃敬佛法,“製《善哉》、《大樂》、《大歡》、《天道》、《仙道》、《神王》、《龍王》、《滅過惡》、《除愛水》、《斷苦輪》等十篇,名爲正樂”。另外,他還開創了童聲演唱佛曲的“法樂童子伎”,讓“童子倚歌梵呗”,又多次舉辦“無遮大會”,爲中國佛教音樂創作、傳播,提供了有利的場所和條件。這一時期,各地佛教音樂在創作中,又因方言、地方音樂和風俗習慣的不同而風格各異。道宣在《續高僧傳·雜科聲德篇》中評論道:佛教音樂“地分鄭魏,聲亦參差”,“東川諸梵聲唱尤多,其中高者,則新聲助哀般遮屈勢之類也”,“吳越志揚,俗好浮绮,致使音頌所尚唯以纖婉爲工”,“江淮之境,偏饒此玩,雕飾文绮,糅以聲華”,“秦壤雍冀,音詞雄遠”。南北朝時代,樂僧輩出,新創作豐富多彩,信衆歡迎,加上帝王倡導,這就爲佛教音樂的中國化奠定了基礎。

  唐代,西域音樂廣泛傳入中原地區,唐太宗在宮廷歡宴百僚時,經常演奏《燕樂》、《清樂》、《西涼樂》、《天竺樂》、《高麗樂》、《龜茲樂》、《安國樂》、《疏勒樂》、《康國樂》、《高昌樂》等十部樂。其中《天竺樂》、《西涼樂》、《龜茲樂》等西域音樂和佛教音樂均有密切的關系,也是當時中原最流行的音樂。《舊唐書·音樂志》雲:“自周、隋以來,管弦雜曲將數百曲,多用《西涼樂》。”同時,中國佛教音樂在創作和演唱、演奏上均達到很高水平,進入了鼎盛時期。廟會在唐代已成爲藝術表演場所,寺院成爲保存和傳習佛教音樂的中心,僧人中演唱、演奏大師輩出。如《宋高僧傳》稱少康唱偈贊,“皆附會鄭衛之聲,變體而作。非哀非樂,不怨不怒,得處中曲韻”,其藝術魅力如“善醫以饧蜜塗逆口之藥,誘嬰兒入口耳”;唐《樂府雜錄》和《因話錄》說文淑“善吟經,其聲宛暢,感動裏人”,“聽者填咽寺舍”。《太平廣記》稱唐文宗曾采其講聲成爲小管的曲子。又如段善本,貞元年間與有“長安第一手”之稱的琵琶演奏家康昆侖比藝,其高超的演奏技術使聽衆傾倒,康昆侖驚服,後拜其爲師。唐代佛教的“俗講”吸引廣大百姓,韓愈詩雲:“街東街西講佛經,撞鍾吹螺鬧宮廷”;姚合也有“仍聞開講日,湖上少魚船”和“酒坊魚市盡無人”之句。《續高僧傳》記載寶巖和尚登座俗講時,“案幾顧望,未及吐言,擲物雲崩,須臾坐沒”,有的高僧“隨物贊祝,其紛若花,士女觀聽,擲錢如雨”。

  唐代佛曲名目甚多。據近人任二北對敦煌卷子中的500余首曲名進行考證研究,其中佛曲有:《婆羅門》、《悉昙頌》、《佛說楞伽經禅門悉昙章》、《好住娘》、《散花樂》、《歸去來》、《太子五更轉》、《十二時》、《百歲篇》等281首。在陳旸的《樂書》中,還載有:《普光佛曲》、《彌勒佛曲》、《如來藏佛曲》等幾十首。此外,在《羯鼓錄》、《食曲》、《唐會要》等書中。也有佛曲名的記載。唐代佛教音樂還吸收和融合了民間音樂和古樂,如佛曲《五更轉》、《十二時》、《百歲篇》、《好住娘》等。在曆經了600余年發展、變化,經過漢族多代僧人的努力創造,中國佛教音樂在唐代進入了輝煌燦爛時期。  

  宋元明清諸代,佛教音樂又經多次的搜集、加工和整理。明永樂二年(1404),成祖搜集唐、宋、元以來通行南北的佛教音樂曲調400余首,編成《諸佛世尊如來菩薩尊者名稱歌曲》行世。這本曲集不但影響全國,還流傳越南、緬甸一帶。

  近代佛教音樂基本上保存了明清的傳統。音樂活動較著名的,有常州天甯寺、甯波天童寺、北京智化寺、揚州大明寺以及山西五臺山諸博物院。爲發掘、整理中國古老的佛教音樂,1986年3月,北京于廣化寺成立了北京佛教音樂團,整理、研究智化寺自明正統(1436~1449)年間流傳下來的京音樂。

  佛教音樂對于中國民間說唱音樂、音韻學以及樂律、音階和字譜學的發展,均有重要影響。另外,崇奉佛教的音樂家和民間音樂藝人,還創作過不少宣傳佛家思想的非宗教儀式所用的聲樂作品和器樂作品,如琴曲《普庵咒》,說唱音樂“宣卷”、“寶卷”的早期作品和現代名僧弘一所作的《叁寶歌》等。

  史料  中國佛教音樂的史料不多,流傳的譜集更爲少見。現藏法國伯希和編號爲P3539,即寫在“叁藏法師阇那崛多譯”的背面的殘譜兩行和編號爲P3808,即寫于後唐長興四年(933)中興殿應聖節講經文卷子的背面的25首曲子,以及山西五臺山鼓樂老譜等唐代字譜,是目前研究唐代佛教音樂的珍貴資料。明永樂趣一年(1404)行世的普集以及清康熙叁十叁年(1694)的北京智化寺的曲譜集,也是重要資料。在日本《大正新修大藏法》中的《魚山聲明集》、《魚山和鈔》以及西藏紮什倫寺所藏的《央移普》等均爲聲曲線譜,這些重要的音樂史料,尚待破譯。此外,各地寺院也有一些手抄譜本。(陳大燦)
