About the Translator
Born Richard E. Byrd, Jr. at Winchester, Virginia in 1948, Bhikkhu Sïlaratano was ordained as a Buddhist monk at Bangkok, Thailand in 1977, having already undergone several years of Buddhist training in India and Sri Lanka. Since his ordination, he has been resident in Thailand, practicing under the tutelage of Ãcariya Mahã Boowa.

戒宝比丘(Bhikkhu Dick Sīlaratano)俗名Richard E. Byrd, Jr..1948年生于美国维吉尼亚州的温彻斯特。1975年他在印度邦加罗尔(Bangalore)依止佛护长老(Buddharakkhita Thera)出家当沙弥，之后去斯里兰卡，于1976年 6月在马河拉村(Maharagama)的Sri Vajiragnana Dharmayatanaya受具足戒。
1977年初，戒宝比丘去泰国，并于同年4月21日在曼谷宝伏寺(Wat Bovornives Viharā)法宗派下重新出家。出家后他随即到乌隆府(Udon Thani)的帕邦塔寺(Baan Taad Forest Monastery)，在摩诃布瓦尊者以及其资深弟子座下受训。
