（经名）大方广佛华严经之略名。大方广为所证之法，佛为能证之人，证得大方广理之佛也，华严二字为喻此佛者。因位之万行如华，以此华庄严果地，故曰华严。又佛果地之万德如华，以此华庄严法身，故曰华严。华严略策曰：“大方广者，所证法也。佛华严者，能证人也。大以体性包含，方广乃业用周遍，佛谓果圆觉满。华喻万行披敷，严乃饰法成人，经乃贯穿常法。”四教仪集注上曰：“因行如华，庄严果德。”此华譬因行也。探玄记一曰：“佛非下乘，法超因位，果德难彰，寄喻方显。谓万德究竟，环丽犹华，互相交饰，显性为严。”此华譬果德也。大日经疏曰：“华有二种：一者万行华。二者万德行。”
