自我教言 Self Guidelines

1.
There are 3 things that I never forget:
Never forget virtuous teachers
Never forget merciful Buddha,
Never forget righteous thought and mindfulness.
1、
切莫遗忘有三种：莫忘恩重善知识，
莫忘大慈大悲佛，莫忘正念与正知。
2.
There are 3 things I need to always remember:
Always remember teachers who transmit disciplines,
Always remember Buddha”s teachings (that lead the paths of liberation),
Always remember disciplines and vows.
2、
恒需忆念有三种：恒念传戒之上师，
恒念示道之佛法，恒念律仪与誓言。

There are 3 things I need to keep:
Keep mind concentrated on practice and not be distracted,,
Keep body in dharma practice and not be distracted,
Keep mind in a relaxed state.
3、
恒时应具有三种：身体恒时应有心，
床第恒时应有身，心中恒时应放松。
4.
There are 3 things urgent to forget:
Urgent to forget friends who bring wrong desire,
Urgent to forget enemies who bring hatred,
Urgent to forget sleep that brings ignorance.
4、
急须忘掉有三种：急须忘掉生贪友，
急须忘掉生嗔敌，急须忘掉痴睡眠。
5.
There are 3 situations I need to be prudent
Be prudent when speaking in public,
Be prudent when behaving in private,
Be prudent when observing my mind.
5、
恒需谨慎有三种：众中出言应谨慎，
独处行为应谨慎，平常观心应谨慎。
6.
There are 3 things I need to keep secret of:
Keep secret of my virtues,
Keep secret of other”s faults,
Keep secret of future plans.
6、
恒需隐秘有三种：隐秘自己之功德，
隐秘他人之过失，隐秘未来之计划。
7.
Do not publicize 3 things:
Do not publicize the occasional renunciation,
Do not publicize any sly behavior,
Do not publicize my merits.
7、
不可宣说有三种：不宣偶尔出离心，
不宣自己狡诈行，不宣自己之善行。
8.
Do not go to 3 places:
Do not go to places of dispute and fight,
Do not go to places of crowd without right mindfulness,
Do not go to places of mundane entertainment.
8、
不可去处有三种：怨仇争处不可去，
众人聚处不可去，玩乐之处不可去。
9.
Do not speak 3 things:
Do not speak dharma in front of non-believers,
Do not speak dharma experience without request,
Do not speak words of dishonest.
9、
不宜宣说有三种：无信者前不说法，
未问不说自经历，不说不符实际语。
10.
There are 3 actions I should not have:
Do not act emotional in front of friends,
Do not act capricious with promises,
Do not act deceptive or hypocritical.
10、
不该之事有三种：友前不该有喜怒，
承诺不该有变动，行事不该有表里。
11.
There are 3 things I do not behave:
Do not feel proud and conceited,
Do not discuss faults behind one”s back,
Do not disrespect other sentient beings.
11、
莫作之事有三种：切莫自大与傲慢，
切莫暗中说他过，于谁亦莫作轻慢。
12.
There are 3 things I should not do:
Do not give property to those who are wealthy,
Do not trust those who are dishonest,
Do not disclose secrets to anyone.
12、
不应之事有三种：不于富人施财物，
不于狡者起信心，于谁亦莫说密语。
13.
There are 3 things I should not inspect:
Do not inspect female bodies,
Do not inspect friend”s behaviors,
Do not inspect my own virtuous deeds.
13、
不应观察有三种：不应观察美女身，
不应观察友之事，不应观察己功德。
14.
There are 3 things I need to be compliant:
Be compliant with what friends say,
Be compliant with proper local apparel,
Mind is always in accordance with dharma.
14、
随顺之事有三种：语言随顺于亲友，
衣饰随顺于当地，自心相应于佛法。
15.
There are 3 things I do not listen to:
Do not listen to other”s praises about my virtuous deeds,
Do not listen to words from a person who is fickle and like the new,
Do not listen to teaching from a person who has no wisdom.
15、
不应听闻有三种：不闻他人赞己德，
不闻喜新者之语，不闻愚者之教诲。
16.
There are 3 things I do not wish to obtain:
Do not wish to obtain wealth from rich persons,
Do not wish to obtain high status,
Do not wish to obtain luxurious clothing.
16、
不能希求有三种：不求富人之财物，
不求高贵之地位，不求华丽之衣饰。
17.
There are 3 things I do not slander:
Do not slander a reputable person,
Do not slander items for sale,
Do not slander my virtuous teacher.
17、
不能诽谤有三种：不谤众望所归者，
不谤他人买卖物，不谤慈我善知识。
18.
Do not praise 3 kinds of people:
Do not praise a scandalous person,
Do not praise a proud fool,
Do not praise a young child.
不能赞叹有三种：不赞众夫所指者，
不赞自大愚昧者，不赞幼稚之孩童。
19.
Do not slander nor praise 3 kinds of people:
Do not slander nor praise my family and relatives,
Do not slander nor praise an unfamiliar teacher,
Do not slander nor praise anyone.
19、
不赞不谤有三种：不赞不谤自亲属，
不赞不谤陌生师，不赞不谤一切人。
20.
There are many more guidelines like these.
In conclusion, it is important to constantly inspect myself,
for both dharma practice and mundane matters.
20、
如此窍决尚众多，总之时时刻刻中，
自观自己极为要，世出世法亦归此。
