乃指十法界中之九界。即：地獄、餓鬼、畜生、阿修羅、人間、天上、聲聞、緣覺、菩薩。

　　（名數）十界中，除佛界自菩薩界至地獄界之九界也。此九界，由佛界言之，悉爲迷之境界也。玄義二上曰：“己身他身，微妙寂絕，皆非權非實，而能應于九界之權一界之實。”
