梵语nirva^n!a，巴利语nibba^na。谓命终证果，灭障度苦。即涅槃、圆寂、迁化之意。此谓永灭因果，开觉证果。即永远灭尽“分段、变易”等二生死，而度脱“欲、有、见、无明”等四暴流。（参阅“涅槃”4149）

　　（术语）梵语Nirv&amacron;na，巴Nibb&amacron;na之译，有有余无余之二（见涅槃条），故皆指命终证果。无量寿经上曰：“国中天人不住定聚，必至灭度者，不取正觉。”法华经序品曰：“佛此夜灭度如薪火灭。”遗教经曰：“世尊灭度，一何疾哉。”涅槃经二十九曰：“灭生死故，名为灭度。”肇论曰：“灭度者，言其大患永灭，超度四流。”行愿品钞四曰：“言涅槃者，具云般涅槃那，古译为入灭息。息即是灭故，但云入灭，或云灭度，即灭障度苦也。”

It　　means　　having　　put　　the　　Two　　Obstacles,　　i.e.　　the　　obstacle　　of　　afflictions　　and　　the　　obstacle　　of　　what　　is　　known,　　to　　an　　end.　　It　　also　　means　　that　　the　　beings　　have　　transcended　　the　　Two　　Deaths,　　i.e.　　glare-sectioned　　birth　　and　　death　　and　　changed　　birth　　and　　death.
