　　Jing-Si Aphorism by Master Cheng-Yen

　　以感恩心待人處世， 持之以恒，

　　必能日日歡喜自在。

　　If we always face all people and situations with a grateful heart,

　　we will be happy and at peace every day.

　　要批評別人時，

　　先想想自己是否完美無缺。

　　Before we criticize others,

　　let us consider whether we ourselves are perfect and without flaws.

　　感恩，是世間最美的語言，

　　也是人與人之間最真誠的對待。

　　Gratitude is the world”s most beautiful language

　　and the most genuine way for people to interact.

　　教之以禮，育之以德；傳之以道，導之以正。

　　Teach with propriety, educate with virtue,

　　instruct with the truth, and guide with principles.

　　對人和睦才能歡喜、自在地過日子。

　　Only by treating others with kindness

　　can one lead a happy and peaceful life.

　　布施不是有錢人的專利，

　　而是一分虔誠的愛心。

　　Giving is not the privilege of the rich,

　　it is the privilege of the sincere.

　　爲善要有自信，才能發揮不畏懼的堅定力量。

　　Doing good deeds requires self-confidence,

　　to dispel all doubts and fear.

　　一念錯，則步步皆錯；一念善，則事事造福。

　　With an erroneous thought, every step is wrong.

　　With a good thought, each action creates blessings.

　　想快樂生活，需先學做人；

　　學做人，應先懂得如何愛人。

　　To live a happy life, first learn how to conduct ourselves.

　　To learn how to conduct ourselves, first learn how to love others.

　　「有」則惜福，「無」則知足。

　　When we have something, let us cherish it.

　　When we do not, let us be content.

　　心誠、行正，就能受人肯定信任。

　　One who acts with integrity and a sincere heart

　　will win the trust of others.

　　有苦的人走不過來，有福的人就要走過去。

　　When the unfortunate cannot find help,

　　those who are blessed must go to them.

　　如果人心能守住平凡、安然自在，就是福。

　　Blessed are those who can be at peace,

　　and content with being an ordinary person.

　　凡事不知足，就會不滿意；

　　不滿意，就會有遺憾。

　　A discontented person will never be satisfied;

　　a dissatisfied person will always have regrets.

　　真正的環保，是愛山、愛海，愛惜一切萬物。

　　True environmental protection lies in

　　loving the mountains and the oceans

　　and in cherishing everything in this world.

　　一念之非即種惡因，一念之是即得善果 。

　　One evil thought plants an evil karmic seed;

　　One good thought will result in good karmic fruit.

　　生死大事，能看得開、想得通，

　　就能安然自在。

　　If one can see life and death as natural phenomena,

　　one can be at peace.

　　世間的物質本來是爲人所用，

　　但不知足者因欠缺智慧，竟淪爲「被物所用」。

　　Material objects are meant to be used.

　　Yet people who lack wisdom become discontent and enslaved by material objects.

　　解除人間的災難，一定要從改善人心做起。

　　To end the disasters of the world,

　　we must improve the human mind.

　　用菩薩的智慧，看待家人；

　　用父母的包容，關懷天下人。

　　Interact with our family members with the wisdom of a Bodhisattva;

　　care for the world with the tolerance of a parent.

　　有力量幫助他人，是自己的福。

　　Having the strength to help others is a blessing.

　　天下一家親，

　　平安時要互愛，

　　災難來臨時要互助。

　　We are connected like one big family.

　　Therefore, love each other during peaceful times and help each other when calamities strike.

　　「貪」不但帶來痛苦，也使人墮落。

　　Craving not only brings misery

　　but also leads the way to moral ruin.

　　你丟我撿──丟者消福；撿者拾福。

　　A person who litters discards a blessing;

　　a person who picks up litter gains a blessing.

　　見人有錯，要「尊重的提醒」；

　　受人指正，應「感恩的接受」。

　　Respectfully point out others” mistakes,

　　and gratefully accept others” critiques.

　　保護大地，需從建設人心開始。

　　Protecting the environment

　　begins with cultivating the human mind.

　　人應該相信自己，但是不可執著。

　　Believe in yourself,

　　but do not be attached to your own point of view.

　　真誠的微笑與祝福，

　　是安定人心的大力量。

　　A sincere smile and a blessing

　　are the greatest forces in soothing the human mind.

　　驚世的災難，要有警世的覺悟。

　　Disasters serve to awaken people”s awareness.

　　人人心中湧現淨水，

　　才能拯救發燒的地球。

　　“Pure water” needs to surge from everyone”s heart to cool the overheating Earth.

　　人依止在大地之上，

　　爲地球盡一分心，是本分事也是使命。

　　As inhabitants of the Earth,

　　it is our duty and mission to take care of our planet.

　　家庭是永久的學校，

　　父母是終生的老師。

　　The family is an everlasting school; parents are lifetime teachers.

　　人生無常，人命只在呼吸間，

　　一秒間過不了關，生命就結束了。

　　所以，要好好把握每一分、每一秒。

　　Life is impermanent.

　　It exists in the space of a breath.

　　Life ends when the breathing stops
