..续本文上一页论思想，在表达和思辩上达到了一个新的高度。禅宗在宋代以后成了中国佛教的主流。宋代的儒家又反过来借用禅宗的心性论，与儒学相结合，形成了中国思想史上的丰硕成果宋明理学。由此可见，佛教与中国本土文化的对话在中国思想史上产生了何其重要的影响。既然在历史上，佛教与中国文化的对话直接产生了禅宗这一成果，并在很大程度上影响了理学的形成，那么，在全球化时代进程的当今时代，佛教在更广阔的范围内与其他宗教、文化进行对话，必将能结出更为丰硕的果实。
将佛教放在西方语境中加以研究，在国际上已经涌现了一批成果，如：
